ENCO CENTROAMERICA S.A

ENCO, as part of a Swiss-Nicaragua wind energy consortium, has produced the first wind map of Nicaragua, based on in situ measurements, and has completed a series of wind park feasibility studies in Nicaragua including Corn Island (2007 - 2009), El Crucero (2008 – 2010), Puerto Cabezas and Pearl Lagoon (2009 -2010) . We are currently assisting an Italian wind park developer to develop the El Crucero site as a 40-60MW project to supply power to the Central American electricity grid.
ENCO Centroamérica S.A. was founded in Nicaragua in May 2004, as a private company dedicated to the development of projects in the fields of renewable energy, energy management and sustainable development.
The company is an affiliate of ENCO Gmbh, a Swiss company based in Bubendorf near Basel, which has more than fifteen years of experience in the development and management of renewable energy projects in Switzerland and Europe.
Nicaragua is a small, developing country with a population of some 5 million people, highly dependent upon imported fuel supplies and foreign aid, and with a nascent democracy that is struggling with a legacy of war, corruption, poverty, natural disasters and environmental neglect.
However, both the Nicaraguan government and its civil society are working hard to meet these challenges and since 2003, the development of renewable energy resources has become a national priority.
By working in Central America, ENCO S.A. is building upon the extensive experience of ENCO Gmbh's work in Switzerland and Europe, and brings to bear its shareholders' extensive knowledge of and links to Nicaragua. The company is developing additional partnerships with both Nicaraguan and European companies with specialised knowledge in the fields of renewable energy and sustainable development.
